> PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
PRODUCT DESIGN + ART LAB + DRAWING&WORDS EXHIBITION
The aim was to develop social awareness: art, games, workshop associated with the reflection for children and the homeless, based on voluntary contribution, it resulted in a stimulation of consciousness as a possibility to improve the condition of the homeless people and 'familyhome-less' children.
Homeless and children living in orphanages, have a face, a story, a smile… they are people! a condition that exists (!) regardless of their social status.
The action with orphanage children combined with the action with the homeless, wanted to create a conceptual interrelation around the delicate concept of 'home' and 'warm bed'.
> The project includes product design of a MODULAR BED in waterproof recycled cardboard (layout-model realized).
The process was based in human centered and inclusive design, creating a pleasing and artistic time for those involved.
A complementary EXHIBITION of drawings and words extracted from interviews attempts to access and report the vision that an homeless group of people have of themselves, of their way to live.
The aim of it was to open a dialogue or a bridge of consciousness, where for once are the weakest that got the words.
The PROCESS key points were able to give an additional 'moment of art and joy' to the children, involved in the cooperation of a bed prototype through the decoration of it (and especially of their own bodies!), enabling the action through a kind of funny art class.
Another key point was to enable the possibility and 'opportunity for the homeless to talk' to the society, and to do it through their own art (drawings) and their thoughts showing their essence of being simply human beings, evoking thoughts about among others their favorite foods and the value of friendship.
Collaborations and Product design realization.
I was responsible for the idea, product development and leadership throughout the process. I got help from two students, and support from a teacher in interior design and from a social association to take contact with the homeless group. This made the actions and events realizable.
I designed and developed the model of a "cardboard street bed" made in modules with the plan to produce it through fundings by possible sponsors and distribute the product among "moradores da rua" (street dwellers).
The integrated value of the product is to raise awareness of a social condition which is very common in Brazil, and that is present all over the world.
This project will not contribute to reduce the amount of people that need a home, but can contribute to open favorable actions to increase people's dignity.
> The project needs financial support. Those who would be interested in financing the development of the project, please take contact.
Because it is worth investing in human dignity.
"Shouldn't all people have the right to a warmer bed?"
